A North Carolina man faces multiple charges after police say he deliberately caused a head-on crash in an attempt to kill his wife.
Anderson Singleton’s wife and two people in the car he hit suffered serious injuries in the crash just before 6 a.m. on Saturday in Raleigh.
The crash was caught on a witness’s dash cam, police said. The witness, Jorge Bravo, told WNCN what Singleton said after the crash.
“He said, ‘Oh, that wasn’t an accident. I was attempting to kill my wife and myself. We were attacking each other. We’re trying to end each other’s lives.’ We’re certainly in the psych ward,” he recounted. “I found it quite fascinating how he just nervously blurted out everything, almost like he was confessing.”
Raleigh police said Singleton swerved over the center line into oncoming traffic, slamming head-on into a Toyota Camry with two men inside.
An off-duty paramedic was driving by and stopped to assist before EMS arrived on the scene.
According to court records, Singleton did not seem impaired at the crash scene. He was arraigned on Monday, and a judge prohibited him from contacting his wife. He faced charges of two counts of assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injuries, assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, careless and reckless driving, and crossing into the opposing lane. Furthermore, the judge included charges of domestic violence assault, stalking, and issuing threats. Singleton was ordered to remain in custody without bond.
