Text messages allegedly exchanged between Sydney Roosters player Victor Radley and South Sydney Rabbitohs hooker Brandon Smith will form part of police evidence when Smith fronts court on drug charges this week.
Smith will face Southport Magistrates Court on the Gold Coast on Thursday, where he is expected to plead not guilty to unlawfully supplying a dangerous drug and using or disclosing inside knowledge for betting.
The Rabbitohs star allegedly received a text from Radley’s number to help obtain an “8 ball” of drugs during a golf weekend getaway on the Sunshine Coast.
“G tee up your cousin in sunny coast for me. Little short ball,” police claim Radley texted Smith.
“Short 8 ball if you will.”
Police say Smith replied “yeah sweet bro” and “when do you want it?”.
An eight-ball refers to 3.5 grams of cocaine.
Smith’s phone was taken by police on August 9 at Gold Coast Airport.
The text messages are set to be used in a brief of evidence when Smith fronts court.
No charges have been laid against Radley, and there is no suggestion he acted unlawfully in any way.
