New details have emerged during a bond hearing in Pennsylvania Monday, in connection with an Ohio woman accused of torturing her 7-year-old son.
As reported by Cleveland.com, Judge Daniel J. Konieczka of the Allegheny County Magisterial District has refused to grant bail to Tiarika Baymon, aged 32. She is currently detained in the Allegheny County Jail.
Along with endangering the welfare of children, Baymon is facing charges that include:
- Firearms not to be carried without a license
- Resisting arrest
- Recklessly endangering another person
- Obstructing administration of law or other governmental function
- False identification to law enforcement authority
Previously, as CrimeOnline noted, Baymon, who hails from Brunswick, Ohio, was apprehended by the Ross Township police in Pennsylvania on Sunday night. The arrest was linked to an AMBER Alert concerning her child.
Deputy Chief Brian Kohlhepp with Ross Township police said the victim had been tortured, and that his mother posted the abuse on Instagram.
“An Instagram video that she had uploaded, which actually showed the child, bound and being tortured by her,” Kohlhepp said.
An arrest warrant reportedly stated that the victim had “a swollen face” with “pepper and irritants” applied to his groin area.
The victim also appeared to have a broken wrist.
“The child was in some significant distress at the time,” Kohlhepp said. “The child definitely had some significant injuries.”
Law enforcement tracked Baymon’s vehicle to a secluded, wooded area on William Street in Ross Township. They discovered her asleep in her 2014 Ford Escape, with a firearm resting on her lap.
“Officers had to remove her from the vehicle. She remained uninjured during the process, though the gun fell to the ground during the encounter,” stated Kohlhepp.
First responders took him to the UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh with numerous traumatic injuries, and possible broken bones.
Police said the victim was later taken to the UPMC Mercy burn unit.
At the bond hearing on Monday, Judge Konieczka remarked that no bail conditions could sufficiently ensure the safety of the victim.
Baymon is also facing legal issues in Ohio. On Monday, Brunswick police Lieutenant Christopher Spencer informed FOX 8 that she has been charged with child endangerment, and there is a possibility of additional charges as “the investigation continues.”
Her next hearing is scheduled for October 1. Check back for updates.
