An Oklahoma man stands accused of a tragic crime, as authorities allege he fatally shot his twin sister and her young daughter before making a hasty escape to Georgia.
Grant Wilson, aged 31 and originally from Oklahoma, was apprehended in Monroe County, just south of Atlanta, on Sunday morning, according to a report by the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation.
Deputies with the LeFlore County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to a residence in Poteau around 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, where they discovered Gabrielle Wilson, also 31, and her 17-month-old daughter deceased, apparently from gunshot wounds.
OSBI agents quickly identified Gabrielle’s twin brother as the prime suspect. As reported by KHBS, an arrest affidavit revealed that surveillance footage captured a vehicle at Gabrielle’s home for a mere four minutes before departing. Investigators traced the car back to her brother, Grant Wilson.
In Georgia, deputies identified the vehicle on Interstate 475 near Macon around 12:30 a.m. on Sunday, according to a statement from the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office. Although the deputies attempted to pull the vehicle over, Wilson initially resisted but soon surrendered after a brief chase.
Upon his arrest, authorities discovered he was armed with a pistol. A thorough search of the vehicle revealed additional firearms, including a Browning lever-action rifle, a shotgun, multiple loaded magazines, and assorted loose ammunition. They also uncovered bags packed with clothing, long-term food supplies, and further ammunition.
Oklahoma detectives don’t yet know a motive for the murders, but court records say family members said the pair had a history of violent arguments and physical confrontations, KHBS said.
Wilson was booked on two counts of first degree murder and is awaiting extradition back to Oklahoma.
