On Thursday, crews searched a New York landfill for an 11-year-old boy who has been missing for weeks.
According to WHEC, police are searching High Acres Landfill in Perinton based on a tip. A dumpster located behind Jacob Prichett’s Brooklyn apartment is believed to be emptied at this landfill, but officials have not stated whether the investigation has transitioned from a missing person case to a recovery effort.
WHEC reported that backhoes moved debris at the ridge of the landfill before roughly two dozen police in white hazmat suits started combing the area.
On September 25, a welfare check was conducted by the Administration for Children’s Services at a Brooklyn apartment. Caseworkers reportedly inspected the residence and found no trace of Prichett, with his mother allegedly refusing to provide a birth certificate.
On October 1, the agency returned to the apartment with NYPD officers. However, they still could not find any evidence of Prichett living there.
During that inspection, a K-9 cadaver dog reportedly identified the presence of human blood on a refrigerator within the apartment, which was without electricity. The 50-year-old woman, who initially denied being the missing boy’s mother, was detained.
Reports stated that neighbors had last seen Prichette, who is autistic and nonverbal, weeks before the welfare check by the Administration for Children’s Services. They also claimed to have heard Prichette’s mother shouting at him prior to his disappearance.
It remains unclear whether charges were filed against Prichette’s mother concerning his disappearance. Reports suggested that she was admitted to a hospital as an emotionally disturbed person.
