A man from Prophetstown named Philip J. Buyno has pleaded guilty to charges of attempting to set a planned abortion clinic on fire.

Philip J. Buyno’s Prison Sentence

A 73-year-old man from Illinois named Philip J. Buyno has been sentenced to five years in prison for crashing his car into a planned clinic and attempting to set the building on fire. The incident caused by Philip J. Buyno took place last year.

In addition to his prison sentence, Philip J. Buyno must also serve three years of supervised release and pay $327,547 in restitution. Philip J. Buyno pleaded guilty to a federal charge of trying to use fire to damage a building involved in interstate commerce.

According to a published article by the Chicago Sun-Times, Philip J. Buyno admitted to breaching the front entrance of a commercial building in Danville, Illinois. Philip J. Buyno drove his car and brought gasoline containers to burn the structure down.

Police later found Philip J. Buyno stuck inside the car. A search of Philip J. Buyno’s car revealed additional items like gasoline, a hatchet, road flares, old tires, and matches.

Philip J. Buyno Pleaded Guilty Back In September

In a published article by News Channel 3-12, he pleaded guilty in September to a federal charge of trying to use fire to damage a building used in interstate commerce.

Buyno’s actions were not only dangerous but also targeted a vital healthcare facility. His attempt to set the clinic on fire could have caused significant harm to both the staff and patients.
