Security camera footage of a man suspected to be behind the attack of a resident of Haverford (Haverford Township Police Department).
A Pennsylvania man who had just found out his wife died was allegedly attacked by an unknown suspect who tried breaking into his son-in-law”s truck.
Haverford Township Police are seeking the public’s assistance in identifying and capturing a man involved in an assault on a 68-year-old. Police Chief John Viola discussed the incident, which occurred on July 18, with WPVI, a local ABC affiliate, on Tuesday. Viola stated that at approximately 2:30 a.m., the victim noticed someone allegedly attempting to break into a truck that belonged to his son-in-law. When the homeowner attempted to intervene, the suspect allegedly assaulted him and forcibly threw him to the ground.
According to Viola, about an hour before the attack, the man had received the devastating news that his wife, who was in hospice care, had passed away, prompting his entire family to gather in support.
Viola also shared additional details with local CBS affiliate KYW. He explained that the suspect not only threw the grieving man to the ground but also punched him before fleeing the scene. The homeowner suffered cuts and lacerations on his arm and was generally “banged up pretty good,” as reported by KYW.
In his comments to WPVI, Viola called the alleged incident “very disturbing,” adding, “You’re going through an incredibly traumatic part of your life, your wife died, and you want to be with your family and grieve. Then you have to put up with this on top of what you are already going through.”
According to police, the same suspect was seen on another doorbell camera about half an hour later in a different part of the neighborhood. Anyone who can identify is asked to contact Haverford Township Det. Mark Johnson at 610-853-1298, ext. 1234 or [email protected].
