An 18-year-old from Seaford and a 38-year-old from South Melbourne have been apprehended following a dramatic incident involving law enforcement.
The sequence of events began when the individuals trailed a Jeep, which eventually came to a stop near a motel in Dandenong, located in Melbourne’s southeast.
In a tense confrontation, a police van maneuvered alongside the Jeep, at which point the Jeep allegedly rammed into the van.
The situation escalated further when the Jeep reportedly accelerated towards two officers as they exited their vehicle.
In response, the officers discharged two shots at the Jeep, both of which struck the vehicle’s frame.
“Additionally, a Ford Ranger at the scene was observed with bullet holes in its window,” reported Melbourne correspondent Christine Ahern during an appearance on Today this morning.
“Police are unable to confirm at this stage how the Ford Ranger is linked to the incident.”
The two men who were allegedly inside the Jeep when the shots were fired were uninjured.
They have been taken into custody to be interviewed by investigators.
One police officer sustained minor injuries and was taken to hospital, where they are recovering.
Professional Standards Command will have oversight of the investigation, which is ongoing.
This is standard practice when a police firearm is discharged.
