Stanley Mulvey, 67, contacted emergency services on Monday, admitting he had “just stabbed his girlfriend” and expressing a desire to end his own life. According to a statement from the Stratford Police Department, officers responded to the couple’s shared apartment following the distress call at approximately 7 p.m. Upon entering, they found Mulvey lying over 62-year-old Megan McShane, who showed no signs of life.

Authorities reported the discovery of a “large kitchen knife” near McShane’s body in the kitchen. Both individuals were “covered in blood,” according to police statements.

Despite orders to move away from McShane, Mulvey allegedly “refused,” prompting officers to use force to lift him from the ground. He was subsequently handcuffed and placed in a patrol car while medical personnel assessed McShane, who was declared dead on the spot.

While detained, Mulvey reportedly confessed multiple times to the killing of McShane. The press release also revealed that Mulvey had a prior domestic violence conviction from May, with McShane identified as the victim in that incident.

While in the car, police said that Mulvey made several statements in which he admitted to killing McShane. The press release noted that Mulvey was convicted on a domestic violence charge in May; the victim in the case was McShane.

Mulvey was booked into jail on $1 million bond after police charged him with murder and interfering with a police officer. He is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday for a bond hearing.
