An Iowa man is facing several charges after reportedly assaulting his grandfather with golf clubs, applying wasp spray to his injuries, and threatening his life.
Joshua Ragan, 38, also reportedly disabled his 71-year-old grandfather’s phone so he could not call for help for about three hours, KWQC reported.
Authorities arrived at the residence shortly before 2 p.m. on Monday and discovered the elderly man in the basement with severe head trauma and multiple cuts. He was transported to a nearby hospital, where medical staff identified facial injuries, a fractured wrist, and rib injuries, requiring stitches on his head.
According to the victim, Ragan struck him on the back of the head and pushed him to the ground before using golf clubs in the assault. Ragan then sprayed wasp killer on his wounds and threatened to electrocute him. The victim reported seeing Ragan handling three firearms inside the house.
Ragan faces charges including assault during a felony, willful injury, unlawful possession of a firearm due to felon status, assault causing serious harm, assault on an elderly person, and false imprisonment.
He’s being held on a $25,000 bond, jail records say. No information was available about the condition of his grandfather.
