A man is in jail in Iowa after allegedly attacking his grandfather with golf clubs and spraying wasp repellent into his wounds.

At 38, Joshua Ragen faces numerous charges, such as assault while involved in a felony, three counts of illegal possession of a firearm, and willful injury – all classified as felonies. Additionally, he is charged with misdemeanor offenses including assault with intent, false imprisonment, and older individual assault, as reported by the Scott County Sheriff’s Office.

The suspect was arrested by police officers in Davenport on Monday. He is being held on a $25,000 secured bond.

Police arrived at a residence on the 3300 block of Covington Drive in Davenport around 1:45 p.m. Since Davenport is near the Illinois border, approximately 170 miles west of Chicago, the officers responded to a domestic disturbance call, according to an arrest affidavit reviewed by NBC-affiliate KWQC.

Authorities discovered a 71-year-old man in the basement, suffering from head and body lacerations, alongside blunt force trauma. The victim alleged that his grandson, Ragan, struck him on the head, pushed him down, and then repeatedly assaulted him with golf clubs.

Moreover, the affidavit also obtained by Fox affiliate KLJB, states that Ragan supposedly “sprayed wasp spray into the victim’s wounds while on the basement floor, simultaneously making death threats and menacing him with electrocution.” He is also accused of seizing three firearms from the home and disabling his grandfather’s phone to impede a call for assistance.

After his arrest, Ragan reportedly confessed to using golf clubs on his grandfather and applying wasp repellent to him. The motivations behind his alleged actions remain unknown. The injured grandfather was hospitalized for injuries to his face, ribs, and wrist, necessitating stitches on his head.

The suspect has a preliminary hearing in Scott County court scheduled for Aug. 8, KLJB reported.
