A Florida man is behind bars after he allegedly pushed a woman into the Miami River during an argument, causing her death days later.

William Youmans Jr., aged 47, is presently charged with attempted second-degree murder, but this charge is anticipated to be elevated due to the victim’s passing. A probable cause arrest affidavit, available through Law&Crime, notes that witnesses informed Miami police of a dispute between Youmans and the victim on Tuesday morning close to the SW 1st Street Bridge near Jose Marti Park.

According to an observer on the opposite side of the river, Youmans and the victim were seen throwing objects at each other. At some moment, the victim sat on the edge of the seawall, which is when Youmans reportedly approached and pushed her into the water. The observer contacted 911 and maintained surveillance on Youmans until law enforcement arrived. The witness identified Youmans to the police, leading to his arrest.

Police rescued the woman and rushed her to the hospital where she was first listed in critical condition. According to local media outlets, the woman identified as 39-year-old Marie Roseme died on Thursday.

Cops took Youmans to the police station where he displayed “violent and erratic behavior,” including screaming and punching walls. He also masturbated and ejaculated on the interview room table, per the affidavit. Because of the acts, police ended the interview and took him to jail where he remains on a $100,000 bond.
