2 children found eating 'raw, spoiled meat' hiding next to bed after mom abandoned them days earlier: Police

A Michigan woman has been taken into custody after authorities alleged she abandoned her two children with special needs for multiple days.

Krystal Farmer, aged 35, faces charges including two counts of child abandonment, four counts of child abuse, and providing false information to police. The Flint Township Police Department reported discovering her children alone in their residence in Flint, Michigan, on February 18. According to a Facebook post by the department, the home was in disarray, littered with garbage, and the walls stained with human waste. One child was found consuming “raw, spoiled meat,” while the other was discovered hiding on a bedroom floor.

Authorities were alerted when a vigilant neighbor called 911 to request a welfare check. WNEM, a local CBS affiliate, interviewed neighbor Christy Ogles-Campbell, who expressed her suspicions about the situation since “at least September.” Upon learning about the actual conditions within the home and the children’s plight, she remarked, “I never ever could have imagined that that was actually what was going on in that house.”

During questioning, Farmer allegedly misled officers, but their investigation revealed she had indeed left the children alone for an extended period. Body camera footage released by the police department showed the distressing discovery: one boy was found unclothed, and the other was covered in feces, with no adults present in the home.

Inside the house, officers encountered a floor so cluttered with debris that it impeded normal movement. A faucet was running unchecked, causing water to flood the floor. Police described the living conditions as reduced to mere survival.

Flint police commended the neighbor’s intervention in their Facebook post, emphasizing that the children are “now safe” thanks to someone who “spoke up.”

According to online court records, a bond order was issued on Monday, but information about Farmer’s bond amount or incarceration status was not available.
