Police have issued a warrant for the arrest of a Sydney rapper for his role in a fatal shooting at a metro service station in November.
Police will allege the shooting is linked to an organised crime network that Harley Johan, also known by his stage name ‘YC EWZY’, may be connected to.
His role in the incident is still unknown as police continue to investigate the incident.
“The evidence is sufficient enough to have had a warrant granted for the arrest of Harley Johan,” Detective Acting Superintendent Matthew Russell said.
“We know that he left Sydney in January of this year for Kuala Lumpur and we’re working hard to establish his whereabouts and to ensure that we can bring him before the courts here in Sydney,” he added.
Six months ago, the rapper released a music video titled ‘RECKLESS’ in which he depicted two men emerging from a car before firing bullets into a parked vehicle.
Russell said that the music video “seeks to glorify” these kinds of actions and that anyone helping Johan should “come face the music.”
Police today released CCTV footage of the shooting last year of 31-year-old Niddal Acherkouk in the inner-city suburb of Surry Hills.
Detectives are today appealing for anyone who knows the location of rapper Harley Johan, also known by his stage name ‘YC EWZY’.
Police believe he is offshore and wish to speak to him in connection with the shooting.
Events began about 7.45pm on Friday, November 24, 2024 when emergency services were called to the scene of a shooting at a petrol station on Cleveland Street.
Acherkouk was found with gunshot wounds and was treated by paramedics, but died at the scene.
Detectives believe he had parked his car at the service station about 6.40pm before going to dinner at a nearby Turkish restaurant.
On his return to the car, Acherkouk was ambushed by two shooters who covered their faces. One was also wearing a poncho to conceal his appearance.
The alleged offenders drove from the scene in a stolen Porsche to the nearby suburb of Kensington and set it alight, before fleeing in stolen white Audi hatchback.
CCTV images from the crime scene show a second man, also sought by police.
He has a medium build and was wearing a black Nike hooded jacket, blue track pants and white/blue Nike runners.
Anyone with information about the location of Johan, or the identity of the two men depicted in the CCTV footage, should call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
