A pregnant West Virginia mother was brutally beaten and left for dead in the woods by her children’s father.
Logan Willis, 21, was taken into custody after allegedly dialing 911 from a local gas station and confessing his belief that he had killed his girlfriend, who is in the advanced stages of pregnancy. At the time, Willis was with the couple’s other child.
Sheriff Ross Mellinger stated that Willis admitted to “beating her until she quit breathing” before dragging her into the woods.
Jackson County Sheriff’s Officers located the mother still alive by following a trail of blood from the road leading to her position. She endured several severe injuries, described as “life-altering,” according to the criminal complaint detailed by WSAZ.
The mother and her unborn baby were transported to a local hospital and remain in critical condition.
Sheriff Mellinger emphasized the urgency, stating, “It’s as much of an issue making sure the baby survives as her.”
Willis has been charged with attempted homicide, malicious assault, and strangulation after his arraignment at the Jackson County Magistrate Court. His bond is set at $500,000.
