Staff Report

HAWTHORNE, Fla. – Authorities have apprehended Zackary Terrell Harnage, 48, following allegations that he unlawfully entered a woman’s residence while she was away for several weeks.

On February 5, an Alachua County Sheriff’s Deputy was dispatched to a home in the Campville area. A neighbor, who had been keeping an eye on the property during the homeowner’s absence, reported that everything seemed secure on February 3. However, around 11:30 a.m. on February 5, she discovered a broken rear window. Upon finding the back door unlocked, broken glass scattered on the floor, and a lingering smell of cigarettes, she promptly exited the premises and contacted 911.

Deputies soon located Harnage on the roadside near the property. They noted that he appeared visibly anxious, complained of pain, and provided only his first name. Concurrently, other deputies reviewed surveillance footage, which clearly showed Harnage both inside the house and on the surrounding property.

Reports indicate that Harnage gained entry by shattering a window. Once inside, he allegedly sifted through the homeowner’s possessions and dismantled security cameras.

When deputies attempted to arrest Harnage, he resisted initially but was ultimately subdued and handcuffed.

Post Miranda, Harnage reportedly declined to speak with a deputy.

Harnage, who is described as homeless on the arrest report, has been charged with burglary of an unoccupied dwelling, property damage, and resisting an officer without violence. He was also booked on a warrant for violating probation on a traffic offense; his probation officer reported in October 2025 that he had not checked in for two months, had not paid his cost of supervision, had not paid his fines, and had not provided proof that he had completed his community service hours or attended Advanced DUI School.

Harnage has five misdemeanor convictions (one violent) and is on probation. Judge Susan Miller-Jones ordered him held without bail until the probation violation is resolved and set bail at $105,000 on the new charges.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
