An Illinois man is behind bars after his wife ran out of her home and sought help from a landscaper, saying her husband was trying to kill her.
According to Buffalo Grove police, a landscaper stepped in to protect a woman from 34-year-old Cody Romano, who attempted to drag her back into their home, the Lake & McHenry County Scanner reported.
Investigators reported that Romano had damaged the 29-year-old woman’s home and attempted to suffocate her with a pillow, threatening to kill her. She managed to escape and ran outside, where she encountered the landscaper.
Romano eventually fled the scene but returned and was taken into custody.
He was taken by ambulance to a hospital for a medical episode before being booked into jail.
The Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office has charged Romano with attempted murder, aggravated domestic battery, misdemeanor domestic battery, and obstruction of the reporting of domestic battery.
