Convicted Child Snatcher Learns Fate After Abducting 7-Year-Old, Tossing Her Off Bridge

A Massachusetts man has been convicted for kidnapping a 7-year-old girl in 2017 and throwing her from a bridge into a lake.

WCVB reported that on Thursday, Joshua Hubert was found guilty of attempted murder by means of strangulation, attempted murder by means of drowning, strangulation or suffocation, and kidnapping a child under 16.

The Worcester County District Attorney’s Office said that Hubert was found not guilty on two charges of aggravated child rape.

As CrimeOnline previously reported, Hubert was a guest at a cookout hosted by the victim’s grandparents in Worcester on August 26, 2017.

At about 2:30 a.m. the next morning, he abducted the victim from the couch, took her in his car, and drove with her for an hour, stopping at one point to strangle her.

He then drove to a highway overpass bridge over Lake Quinsigamond and threw her into the water. The child displayed remarkable survival skills, swimming about 100 yards to shore and walking, in soaking wet pajamas, to a home in Shrewsbury, where she knocked on the door at around 4:30 a.m. on August 27, 2017.

Worcester District Attorney Joseph Early Jr. prviously told NBC News that the girl was recovering from “visible, but not life-threatening, injuries.”

“Fortunately, a greater tragedy was averted. The young victim had the strength to make it to shore and get help. I want to thank the resident who answered the door and helped the girl.”

Hubert is scheduled to be sentenced on October 3, according to NBC Boston 10.
