The British legal system has formally accused a man of systematically drugging and assaulting his former spouse over a span of 13 years, officials announced on Monday.
Additionally, five other individuals are facing charges related to sexual offenses against the same woman.
Philip Young, aged 49, faces 56 charges, including multiple counts of rape and administering drugs with the intent to “stupefy” Joanne Young, between the years 2010 and 2023, according to a joint release from the Crown Prosecution Service and Wiltshire Police.
Despite the legal protection that typically ensures the anonymity of sexual crime victims in the UK, Joanne Young has chosen to publicly disclose her identity.
“She has requested to be identified in this press release and is receiving support from specially trained officers and partner agencies,” the statement elaborated.
The statement did not specify the timing of the divorce between the Youngs.
Philip Young remains in custody while the five other suspects have been released on bail, police said.
All six men charged are set to appear at Swindon Magistratesâ Court in southwest England on Tuesday.
