In an unsettling turn of events, authorities have uncovered what they suspect to be the remains of an 85-year-old man who was reportedly abducted from his residence in what appears to be a tragic case of mistaken identity. This incident unfolded in the early hours of Friday, February 13.
This morning, around 8 a.m., detectives on the case made a significant discovery near a golf club in Pitt Town, finding human remains believed to be those of the missing man. While the formal identification process is still underway, initial signs point toward them belonging to the elderly gentleman, known as Baghsarian.
Sources from 9News reveal that the remains were found wrapped in what seemed to be a carpet or towel, adding a grim detail to the ongoing investigation. However, the police have refrained from disclosing further details at this juncture.
The discovery came after a thorough search in the dense bushland near Glenorie, located roughly 15 minutes to the east of Pitt Town, just a day prior. The specific lead that directed the investigation to this grassy site remains undisclosed, leaving the community with more questions than answers as they await further updates from the authorities.
9News understands they were wrapped up in what appeared to be a carpet or towel.
It’s not known yet what led police to the grassy site where the remains were found, after searching in dense bushland near Glenorie, about 15 minutes further east, yesterday.
Shortly before 9am, a number of police vehicles left their search base to travel to a patch of overgrown grassland near Pitt Town Bottoms Road.
Once they arrived at the location, a blue tent – signifying the location of the remains – was raised in minutes.
The overgrown piece of land is located in semi-rural surroundings, with businesses including turf farms nearby.
It’s understood police have informed Baghsarian’s family about the discovery, who have been left distraught and heartbroken.
Police on the scene this morning included tactical, general duties, and forensics officers as well as investigators.
The area is being carefully combed, with officers conducting line searches around where the remains were found.
The car, a grey 2022 Toyota Corolla with cloned plates, was found burned out in Westmead and linked to a crime scene police had established in Dural in Sydney’s far north-west.
Police believe those who kidnapped Baghsarian may have taken the grandfather to the property after the abduction.
During a raid, officers seized evidence, including disturbing images of the missing grandfather with his alleged kidnappers.
The Corolla, which had been spotted near the Dural property, was dumped and burned last Monday after 11.30pm, police said.
It had cloned plates of DVT007, and the Victorian registration 1UZ2BU.
Police have said the person they believe to have been the intended target of the kidnapping is safe and in no immediate danger.
