A New York man is facing serious charges following a violent incident on Wednesday that resulted in injuries to his wife and her 12-year-old daughter. The alleged attack took place in their Bronx home.
According to sources, 28-year-old Joshua Burnside was involved in a confrontation with his 31-year-old wife, during which she reportedly attempted to defend herself with a knife. However, Burnside allegedly seized the weapon, inflicting stab wounds to her stomach and facial lacerations. The New York Daily News provided these details, shedding light on the harrowing events that unfolded in the apartment.
The couple’s 12-year-old daughter reportedly witnessed this brutal encounter. After the mother fled the scene, Burnside is accused of turning his aggression towards the child, stabbing her multiple times. Disturbingly, he allegedly drove a long screw into the side of her skull using a hammer, as reported by the Daily News.
Authorities have since taken Burnside into custody without further incident. His wife was transported to a hospital and treated for minor injuries. Meanwhile, the young girl underwent surgery and is in critical condition. Fortunately, two other children, aged 2 and 5, who were present in the home at the time, were unharmed.
Medical professionals discovered bruising on the girl’s head, leading to the discovery of a screw that had penetrated her brain, as confirmed by law enforcement sources to the publication.
Eyewitnesses recount the chaos that ensued. “She was pounding on four or five doors,” a neighbor shared with News12. “When we came outside, she was bleeding from her abdomen. We were trying to understand what was happening. Then she mentioned there were kids inside, and we all reacted with shock, wondering how the children were.” This account underscores the panic and urgency following the attack.
WNBC reported that Burnside suffered an injury to the wrist. He is facing charges of assault, criminal possession of a weapon, and endangering the welfare of a child in connection with Wednesday’s attack.
According to the New York Post, bloody fingerprints were seen on a sixth-floor door at the Bronx apartment building. The door was reportedly also dented at the bottom.
Burnside’s arraignment was scheduled for Friday.
