Authorities in Florida are delving into the tragic circumstances surrounding the “violent death” of a 56-year-old man discovered outside his Bartow apartment, lying in a pool of blood.
According to Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd, the victim, Jeffrey Blevins, was conversing with his mother over the phone shortly after 11 p.m. on Thursday. Their conversation was abruptly interrupted when she heard him fall. Alarmed by the sudden silence and lack of response, she ended the call and reached out to her daughter, who resides in the same apartment complex. She urged her, “Go find Jeff, it sounds like he’s fallen.”
Upon receiving the distressing call, Blevins’ sister quickly went to check on him and discovered her brother in a dire state, surrounded by blood. She immediately contacted emergency services.
Paramedics swiftly transported Blevins to Bartow Regional Medical Center. Unfortunately, despite their efforts, he was pronounced dead upon arrival.
Bartow Police Chief Stephen Walker has sought the expertise of the sheriff’s office to aid in this critical investigation.
Sheriff Judd noted that Blevins had a prior arrest related to domestic violence approximately 30 years ago. Since then, his only other known legal issue involved driving with a suspended license.
The sheriff said the investigation was in its early stages, and more information would be provided when it becomes available.
