Kamron Kearney (Bexar County Sheriff’s Office).

A harrowing case in Texas has concluded with a man facing a lengthy prison sentence after committing a series of brutal acts against his disabled roommate. Kamron Kearney, 28, from San Antonio, was sentenced to 47 years behind bars following a conviction for aggravated assault with a weapon and causing bodily injury to a disabled person, as confirmed by Bexar County court records reviewed by Law&Crime.

The unsettling events unfolded when Kearney poured pitchers of “scalding hot water” over his 36-year-old roommate, who is autistic and relies on disability payments. This cruel act was reportedly in response to her urinating on herself. The abuse didn’t stop there; Kearney is also accused of setting her on fire twice with rubbing alcohol, a disturbing detail that came to light during his trial.

Following a jury trial, Kearney was found guilty on December 5, marking the end of a legal process that began when police were called to their residence in October 2023. They responded to a report from another occupant who was caring for the victim at the time. This individual was in the process of bathing the woman when Kearney’s violent outburst occurred, according to an arrest affidavit referenced by CBS affiliate KENS.

The affidavit further details how Kearney filled pitchers with scalding water and poured them over the shower stall where the victim was, inflicting severe burns on her neck and back. The case has drawn significant local media attention, with ABC affiliate KSAT providing coverage of the courtroom proceedings and the shocking nature of the crime.

Police responded to their home in October 2023 after receiving a report about Kearney’s attack from another person in the home who was taking care of the victim. The individual was bathing the woman, and Kearney became “angry with the victim for urinating on herself,” the affidavit said.

Kearney went and filled up pitchers with “scalding hot water” and poured them over the top of the shower stall that the victim was in, causing severe burns on her neck and back, according to local ABC affiliate KSAT.

After the woman was done being bathed, Kearney forced her to stand in a corner until her legs became swollen. He then poured rubbing alcohol on her and set her on fire with a match, according to the affidavit, causing severe burns to the woman’s arms.

The fire was put out, and the woman reportedly fell to the floor. Kearney proceeded to pour more rubbing alcohol on her legs, then set them ablaze.

Court records show that the San Antonio man has been charged in the past and entered pleas of no contest or guilty for a series of violent crimes, including assault with bodily injury in 2017, assault with bodily injury to a spouse in 2019, and assault with bodily injury in 2022. It’s unclear if the victim from the hot water incident was involved in any of his previous criminal cases.
