Five Charged, Including Former Guard, in Inmate’s Death Inside Texas Jail

In a troubling incident last month, seven children in Illinois have been formally charged after allegedly attacking a mother and her young son. The Chicago Police Department confirmed these charges to FOX 32 on Saturday.

The alarming event unfolded on November 17 as the children, ranging in age from 10 to 13, reportedly assaulted a 33-year-old mother and her 9-year-old son. The attack occurred while they were on their way home from the child’s school in South Deering, specifically along the 10600 block of South Bensley Avenue.

According to ABC 7, the group of minors involved consists of three 10-year-old boys, a 10-year-old girl, an 11-year-old girl, a 12-year-old boy, and a 13-year-old girl. The location of the alleged assault was in close proximity to Orville T. Bright Elementary.

Both the mother and her son were subsequently hospitalized at Trinity Hospital, where they were admitted in serious condition. Corshawnda Hatter, the mother, expressed her distress to ABC 7, stating that she has “never endured such pain.”

The young victim received recognition from the community for his courage in attempting to shield his mother during the assault, FOX 32 reported.

All the minors are charged with battery, causing bodily harm. They have all been released and referred to counseling services.

Police say this is an ongoing investigation.

A video of the incident went viral. Chicago rapper Lil Zay Osama, who had viewed the video, extended his support to the victims.
