Staff report

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Ga’terica Ashanti Mona Thompkins, 22, and Itionna Lajancia Nyjah Thompkins, 24, were taken into custody yesterday after allegedly attacking a vehicle using a brick, a pipe, and a glass bottle.

Around 6:48 p.m. on October 3, a Gainesville Police Department officer was called to Southern Pines Apartments (located at 4145 SW 17th Place). The victim claimed that upon her entrance into the apartment complex, the women began to assault her vehicle with various objects without any prior provocation.

The victim started recording the incident, noting that Ga’terica Thompkins approached holding a brick, while Itionna Thompkins wielded a pipe. Ga’terica reportedly struck the windshield with the brick, causing a crack, while Itionna allegedly hit the vehicle multiple times with the pipe before tossing a glass bottle at it.

The officer estimated the damage to the victim’s vehicle at $5,000.

After being read her Miranda rights, Ga’terica initially denied causing any damage but eventually admitted to throwing a brick at the vehicle, claiming she missed.

Similarly, Itionna first denied any wrongdoing but later stated she had used the pipe to hit the vehicle in an attempt to protect her sister, alleging that items had been thrown at them without cause.

Ga’terica Thompkins faces charges of property damage exceeding $1,000. Her record includes juvenile offenses from 2017 to 2020 and seven adult misdemeanor convictions, with one being violent. Judge Craig DeThomasis set her bail at $1,000.

Itionna Thompkins has been charged with property damage over $1,000 and booked on a warrant for violating probation. She has juvenile convictions between 2013 and 2017, four adult felony convictions (three violent), and seven adult misdemeanor convictions (one violent).

In June 2024, Itionna Thompkins was arrested for punching a relative and threatening her with a knife. She was formally charged with domestic battery and sentenced to a year of probation in August 2024, but she failed to report to her probation officer, provide proof of enrolling into substance abuse and mental health treatment, or submit to random urine testing, and a warrant for her arrest was issued in September 2024. She was arrested on the warrant in February 2025, and in March, Judge Kristine Van Vorst reinstated her probation with day reporting and a new completion date of November 11. Her probation officer reported that she never reported and never called; after the probation officer got an updated phone number from Itionna Thompkins’ mother, Thompkins reportedly promised to report the next day but did not show up and stopped responding to phone calls. A warrant for her arrest was issued in March, and she was arrested on that warrant yesterday.

Judge DeThomasis ordered her held without bail until the probation violation is resolved and set bail at $1,000 on the new charge.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
