Inset: Keith Washington (Harris County Jail). Background: Cops in Houston, Texas, investigate after Washington allegedly murdered his wife at her home in the 14000 block of Cypress Falls Drive (KHOU).
The Harris County Sheriff’s Office reported that deputies were dispatched to the residence on Cypress Falls Drive around 10 p.m. after the couple’s 6-year-old son made the desperate call to report that his father had shot his mother. The heartbreaking call highlighted the boy’s awareness that his mother was beyond help, despite his attempts to save her.
Upon arrival, deputies found Friday deceased, confirming the young boy’s account. Investigators revealed that Washington allegedly fired shots through the living room window from outside before entering the home to carry out the fatal act. This shocking event took place despite Friday’s documented fears for her safety due to her husband’s recent behavior.
It has been established through court records that Friday filed for divorce in December, and during this period, Washington was not residing in the home. The incident has left a community shaken, as family dynamics took a devastating turn, impacting a child too young to bear such a burden.
“She had been in fear for her safety due to her husband’s recent behavior,” deputies wrote.
Records show Friday filed for divorce in December. Washington had not been living in the home.
Washington fled the home in a silver truck. Using a helicopter, deputies spotted the suspect and later cornered him on a dead-end road where he fired a gunshot out of the truck, cops said. That led to an hourslong standoff with the SWAT team. Eventually, Washington gave himself up.
Cops transported him to the Harris County Jail where he remains without bond.
The suspect had previously been arrested for allegedly assaulting Friday in 2019 when he choked her, according to court records. That case was dropped.
His next court date is set for May 15.
