A man bearing the same name as his father is wanted for allegedly murdering both of his parents last month, Texas authorities announced.

Authorities are currently unaware of the whereabouts of Christopher Leman Jr. as of Friday morning. The Harris County Sheriff’s Office has declared him “not in custody and deemed a threat to public safety.”

On July 11, around 5:30 p.m., deputies were requested by a family member to check on residents of a home in the 10500 block of Crosby Lynchburg Road in east Harris County, as they hadn’t been in contact with them.

When deputies got there, they found Christopher Leman Sr., 75, and Mary Leman, 73, inside “suffering from severe injuries.”

At the scene, Christopher Leman Sr. was discovered deceased in the living room, while Mary Leman was found injured but alive, later being taken to a hospital. She was initially expected to recover but unfortunately passed away two days later, according to the sheriff’s office.

Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez provided further insights into the incident the same day the victims were discovered. He described the house as being located in a densely overgrown area, roughly half a mile from the main road, noting that Christopher Leman Sr. had sustained a gunshot wound.

Initially, there were assumptions that Mary Leman had also been shot. However, after medical evaluation, Sheriff Gonzalez clarified that she had suffered a head laceration, but there was no indication of a gunshot wound.

Due to the evidence collected and leads followed in the preliminary investigation, the married couple’s 47-year-old son was identified as the suspect in the murders. Christopher Leman Jr. is specifically wanted for capital murder. A person convicted of capital murder in Texas is eligible for the death penalty.

Authorities want anyone with information about Christopher Leman Jr. to contact them immediately.

“It’s just a sad situation when you have any type of death like this, but these people are in their mid-70s, probably well into their retirement. I’m sure they didn’t deserve this,” Harris County Major Anthony McConnell said in July according to Houston-based Fox affiliate KRIV.
