Police in Idaho say they have identified a man who has allegedly broken into the homes of his stalking victims and are asking for the public’s help in tracking him down.
Officials have identified Jacob Smart, 38, as the man they say is behind a series of burglaries that took place in 2023. The break-ins involved “a man stalking and entering female’s homes,” the Boise Police Department said in a press release Thursday.
“Among the items taken from the homes was a firearm, personal identification, debit and credit cards, and women’s underwear,” the statement said. “Some burglaries included forced entry.”
The suspect allegedly stole personal items — and, in at least one case, did some redecorating.
“In one burglary, the suspect moved personal items around in the home,” the statement says. “In another burglary, the suspect entered the home while the victims were asleep, stole house keys and was then seen on surveillance video later attempting to reenter the house but the victims had already changed the locks.”
The burglaries and break-ins took place at some five different locations across Boise, police say. They allegedly began in August 2023 and were last reported in October.
Boise police have issued a “$500,000 nationwide extraditable warrant” for Smart’s arrest.
Authorities believe Smart’s criminal actions crossed state lines: a search warrant in neighboring Oregon turned up “multiple stolen firearms, and several pieces of evidence, including identifications of several victims in Idaho,” the Boise police statement said.
“Smart is aware of his outstanding warrant and fled police during an attempt to place him under arrest for this warrant in Oregon,” police added. “He is considered armed and dangerous.”
Officials in Clatsop County, Oregon, also identified Smart as a wanted man who was “likely armed and dangerous.”
“Do not approach!!” a Facebook post from the Clatsop County Sheriff’s Office warned.
