In Gainesville, Florida, a man named Kenny Donnell Roberts, aged 42, found himself in legal trouble following allegations of theft and fraudulent activity involving cell phones. Roberts, once employed by UPS, is accused of pilfering eight cell phones from packages, with these items collectively valued at $1,455.50.
The Gainesville Police Department’s investigation revealed that Roberts not only stole the phones but also pawned at least six of them. He utilized EcoATM vending machines for the transactions, where he provided his driver’s license and thumbprint as identification. Each time, he falsely claimed ownership of the phones, according to police reports.
As a result of these activities, Roberts faces several charges, including dealing in stolen property, grand theft, and supplying false information during a pawn transaction. His criminal record is extensive, with four previous felony convictions—two of which were violent—and six misdemeanor convictions, three of which were also violent. He served a decade-long prison sentence for aggravated assault before his release in 2012.
In response to these recent allegations, Judge James Colaw issued a warrant that set Roberts’ bail at $25,000 on January 12. As is standard, it is important to remember that the charges are accusations at this stage, and Roberts is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
