GAINESVILLE, Fla. – A 25-year-old man from Valdosta, Georgia, identified as Manuel Lee Norman IV, was taken into custody yesterday following an alleged altercation involving a family member and law enforcement officers.
The incident unfolded around 11:30 a.m. on January 17, as officers from the Gainesville Police Department were engaged in a separate investigation on the 1600 block of SE 12th Place. During their inquiry, Norman reportedly entered the scene abruptly, bypassing the officers to confront a family member who was being interviewed.
As an officer attempted to intervene, Norman allegedly pushed past and advanced towards the family member, grabbing the person by the ankles in an apparent attempt to pull them closer. Witnesses say Norman raised his fist, seemingly ready to strike, but officers managed to restrain him just in time.
Despite being restrained, Norman allegedly continued his efforts to hit the family member, inadvertently striking one of the officers in the process. The situation escalated as officers worked to subdue Norman, who allegedly resisted and threw punches until he was brought to the ground and handcuffed. Two officers sustained minor injuries during the confrontation.
Norman, who resides in Valdosta, Georgia, now faces charges of resisting an officer with violence and domestic battery. With no prior criminal record in the local area, his bail has been set at $11,000 by Judge Sean Brewer.
