Alleged drink driver brings down powerlines, nearly hits train tracks in NSW crash

A man has been charged with high-range drink driving after a car crashed through a fence, bringing down powerlines, before coming to a stop beside train tracks in NSW’s Blue Mountains.

Police were called to the intersection of Railway Parade and Blackheath Street, Leura, shortly before 10pm yesterday.

They found an uninjured 41-year-old man, and a sedan wedged just two metres from the westbound rail lines.

About 60 metres of cabling was also dislodged by the crash.

The man underwent a roadside breath test and a roadside drug test, both of which allegedly returned positive results.

Police also alleged they found cocaine, cannabis, and prescription medication in the car.

A breath analysis at Katoomba Police Station allegedly returned a reading of 0.162.

A Wentworth Falls man was charged with high-range drink driving, drug possession, and knife possession.

He was bailed to appear in court on July 7 and his licence was immediately suspended.

Police say further charges could be laid depending on the outcome of a drug test.
