Teenager charged after alleged antisemitic attack on Sydney train

A teenager has been charged after an alleged antisemitic assault on a 66-year-old man on a train in Sydney’s CBD earlier this week.

Officers began investigating after reports of an alleged assault on a train travelling towards Town Hall Station at around 4.20pm on Monday.

Police were told two men allegedly approached the 66-year-old man as he was walking towards the train exit.

The pair allegedly threatened the man multiple times at knifepoint about his religion before assaulting him and fleeing the scene.

The man was assisted by Transport for NSW staff before reporting the incident at the Day Street Police Station.

Around 2.45pm yesterday, police officers arrested a 16-year-old boy after executing a search warrant at an address on Orient Road in Padstow.

The 16-year-old was taken to Bankstown Police Station where he was charged with multiple offences.

He was taken to Bankstown Police Station, where he was charged with armed intent to commit an indictable offence, common assault, publicly threatening violence on grounds of religion and stalking or intimidating intending fear and physical harm.

He was refused bail and will appear at a children’s court today.
