A teenager from Mississippi is set to face trial as an adult following his alleged admission to the brutal killing of his grandmother at their local church.

Seventeen-year-old Jadynn Hamilton has been charged with first-degree murder in the death of his 73-year-old grandmother, Ollie Hamilton. The tragic incident occurred at Smith Chapel Holiness Church, where paramedics pronounced Ollie dead after responding to an emergency call at 5:45 p.m. on Wednesday. Monroe County Sheriff Kevin Crook told WTVA, an affiliate of ABC and NBC, that Jadynn confessed to the crime.

During a press briefing, Crook mentioned that deputies uncovered evidence at the church located in Athens, approximately 175 miles northeast of Jackson, near the Alabama border. These findings led to Jadynn Hamilton becoming a suspect. Ollie was found near the church’s kitchen, and witnesses later revealed that a “young man” had sought assistance for her.

This “young man” was identified as Jadynn Hamilton. As reported by the Monroe Journal, Crook explained, “As the investigation progressed, the evidence increasingly pointed to one direction. Initially, a young man appeared to seek help after the incident. We brought him in last night, and he admitted to the crime.”

Crook described the situation as a devastating tragedy, highlighting the impact on the family and the community. He lamented, “It’s a heartbreaking situation when a cherished community member is killed, only for it to be discovered that another beloved family member is responsible.”

While the motive remains unclear, Crook noted that Jadynn had no prior criminal history. He commented, “When someone can’t control their impulses and reaches a breaking point, the identity of the victim becomes irrelevant. Unfortunately, in this case, it was his grandmother.”

Jadynn Hamilton was arrested and charged as an adult with first-degree murder. He is being held on $500,000 bond.
