Authorities claim that two groups, likely familiar with each other, got into an altercation at Broadmeadows Railway Station shortly after 3 p.m. yesterday.
When officers arrived, they discovered two 17-year-old boys suffering from what appeared to be stab wounds.
At the scene, detectives recovered a screwdriver, which they allege was used in the attack on one of the victims.
The teenagers sustained injuries that were not life-threatening. They were swiftly taken to a hospital, where one of them is scheduled to undergo surgery today.
Police apprehended a 19-year-old man and a 17-year-old boy at Glenroy station within 30 minutes of witnesses calling emergency services to report the alleged incident.
The younger suspect now faces charges including affray, intentionally causing injury, and recklessly causing injury.
He was bailed by police to appear at a children’s court at a later date.
The 19-year-old male, from Heidelberg West, was released without charge pending further enquiries.
Witnesses described seeing other weapons, including a machete, during the attack, but police were unable to locate any other items of interest at the scene.
Broadmeadows station will have additional police presence in the coming days in response to the incident, as detectives continue to search for others involved in the brazen daylight stabbing.
Detective Sergeant Raynor Gunton said apprehending the outstanding offenders was a priority.
“This is sadly another example where young men have attended a public place in broad daylight armed with knives looking to cause trouble,” Gunton said.
“The victims in this incident were both children and are lucky their injuries were not more serious.”
