A young Georgian woman is on the mend following a harrowing experience where she was shot by an unidentified assailant just moments after ending a live session on Instagram.
Raven Brown, on the cusp of turning 18, was celebrating the countdown to her birthday on the evening of February 1st. She was engaging with her friends in an Instagram livestream from her bedroom in Atlanta. As she told WSB, an ABC affiliate, mere seconds after signing off, the tranquility was shattered by the sound of gunfire, followed by a sudden, intense pain.
Recalling the terrifying moment, Brown shared with WSB, “I collapsed on the floor, my whole arm and two fingers felt numb, and my brother was like, ‘You okay?’ And I was like, ‘I’m shot, I got hit.’”
The Atlanta Police Department, in a succinct statement obtained by Law&Crime, confirmed their response to the shooting incident at approximately 11:40 p.m. on that fateful night. Upon arrival, officers discovered Brown with a gunshot wound, yet she remained conscious and breathing. She had attempted to shield herself from the barrage of bullets but was struck before she could find safety. Fortunately, she was the only one harmed, though a vehicle parked outside the family residence wasn’t as lucky, showing signs of the attack.
In a heartfelt conversation from her hospital bed with WAGA, a local Fox affiliate, Brown recounted, “I didn’t know I was shot until I fell to the floor.” She immediately sought help, rushing to her mother’s room to inform her of the injury.
Currently, Brown remains hospitalized as she recovers from a broken shoulder and rib. The bullet that caused her injuries remains lodged within her, as doctors have deemed it too risky to remove due to its proximity to a major artery.
Brown’s family started a GoFundMe page to raise money for her medical bills and support the family while she recovers. According to the fundraiser, her mother chose to take time off from work to care for her daughter.
Police recovered shell casings at the scene, but did not name a suspect. They said the investigation is ongoing.
