Teenager charged for allegedly filming firebombing linked to former NRL player
A sixth person has been charged for their alleged involvement in the shooting and firebombing of a Sydney home last month, believed to be part of a campaign targeting the family of a former NRL player.
Matt Utai was left fighting for life after being struck by two bullets in a drive-by shooting on February 17 outside his home as he was leaving for work.
The former Bulldogs and West Tigers winger has since been released from hospital after suffering multiple gunshot wounds to his leg and chest.

A short time later, police were called to Samuel Street, Wiley Park, where they found an SUV on fire, believed to be linked to the alleged attack.

In the early hours around 12:45 a.m., gunshots rang out at a residence in St Clair.

Inside the home, a woman in her 50s escaped unharmed.

Not long after, authorities discovered a second vehicle torched in Colyton.

The morning after this incident, a house on Hunt Street in Guildford West caught fire, and a nearby car was similarly engulfed in flames.

Firefighters managed to put out both fires, with no reported injuries.

In response to these events, authorities launched Strike Force Halesowen. Subsequent investigations led to a home search in Guildford around 5:45 p.m. yesterday, resulting in the arrest of a 19-year-old.

He was taken to Bankstown Police Station and charged with a raft of offences in relation to the alleged firebombing incident.
Police allege that the teenager was involved in the Hunt Street fire, recording a video as the home was set alight.

They have now charged six people in relation to the incidents, and they all remain before the courts.

Police say there is no suggestion of any wrongdoing by Matt Utai, and he is not involved in any criminal activity.

Authorities believe the alleged incidents may be targeting Utai’s son, whose alleged links to the Alameddine crime network could have been the reason behind the alleged attacks.

NSW Police say the younger Utai is currently wanted for “criminal group offences”.
