A Sydney woman accused of hiding her partner as he went on the run following the alleged stabbing of two border force contractors has vowed to stick by her man.
Police claim 24-year-old Baea Huahula helped her partner Paea Teu evade authorities who were transporting him from Villawood Detention Centre to Sydney Airport last Thursday.
The two were arrested together the following day.
In an interview with 9News, Baea offered an apology to the two alleged victims.
“I just wanted to say that I’m sorry about what happened to them and hopefully they get better soon,” she said.
“I’m sorry for their family.”
The couple met in 2020 while Teu was working on a farm in Queensland on a temporary visa.
The pair moved to Sydney and started a life together that is now at risk of being torn apart.
Regardless of the outcome in court, it is almost certain Baea’s partner will be deported back to Tonga when their cases are finalised and Baea plans to follow him if he goes.
“If he’s done something wrong, I still love him the way he is,” she said.
Both are due to appear before a magistrate again in the coming months.
