The family-of-five was packing their car for a trip to Bali and were in the garage when the car was stolen as it sat on the driveway on Weston Drive in Keysborough about 4.15am today.
An unknown alleged thief jumped into the unoccupied car and drove away.
He narrowly missed hitting the parents as they gave chase, yelling for him to stop, as can be seen on CCTV footage.
The children can be heard crying in the background of the video.
Nobody was hurt in the incident, however the car contained luggage and passports, ruining the family’s planned trip to Bali.
“I feel for the kids because all they wanted to do and all they talked about was going on the plane,” one of the homeowners told 9News.
“My five-year old-daughter said, ‘Mummy, why did the man jump in the car?”
The missing car is a 2022 model silver Kia Carnival with registration DBS638.
The family have been told by police that two car seats were found dumped in Cranbourne, a few suburbs away, 9News reports.
An investigation into the theft is ongoing.
