A probe has been launched following the grim discovery of a dismembered body in a New York apartment building’s basement on Sunday.
According to reports, workers at a Brooklyn apartment complex stumbled upon the remains of 39-year-old Michelle Montgomery. Her body was found inside a plastic bag within the building’s trash compactor area. An employee mentioned that this section, usually locked, is generally off-limits to residents, as reported by the New York Daily News.
The same publication noted that authorities are treating Montgomery’s death as a homicide, although the precise cause of death has not been established. The New York City medical examiner’s office confirmed to The New York Times that an autopsy has been performed, but further information is being evaluated before reaching a conclusive determination.
According to the New York Post, Montgomery’s husband mentioned that she had gone out with friends on Saturday, something she rarely did, as she usually spent her time with their three children.
“She told me she was just meeting friends,” her husband stated. “I didn’t know who they were.”
It remains unclear if Montgomery had any ties to the apartment building where her body was found. However, the New York Post highlighted that the location was less than four miles from her residence.
No arrests have been made.
