A tragic incident unfolded in Indiana when a woman sent her son to collect rent from his elder sibling, leading to a deadly confrontation. The older brother fatally stabbed his younger brother during a dispute over the money.
According to the mother, Thomas Campbell, 59, had a history of resisting rent payments, as reported by WGN.
The altercation took place in Gary, where police disclosed that Thomas Campbell engaged in a physical struggle with 53-year-old Erik Campbell. During the conflict, Thomas drew a knife, inflicting multiple stab wounds on Erik. He succumbed to his injuries while being transported to the hospital. The Chicago Tribune noted that Erik was stabbed in the neck, chest, arm, back, and abdomen.
A witness described Thomas leaving the scene briefly and returning with his hand concealed in his pocket. Surveillance footage captured Erik pleading with his brother to reveal what he was hiding.
In his defense, Thomas Campbell informed police that his brother had struck him, causing him to “black out,” as reported by WGN. He also alleged that Erik had been a persistent bully, according to court records.
Thomas called 911, asserting that he acted in self-defense after being threatened. However, witnesses stated that Erik did not possess a firearm, and no weapon was discovered at the scene, as reported by the Tribune.
Thomas Campbell has been charged with murder and is being held without bail, according to WGN.
