Man who beat his wife to death with a piece of wood until she was 'unrecognizable' was trying to load her body into a truck when cops arrived: Police

The unsettling case of a Kentucky man accused of a brutal crime has emerged, as authorities allege he violently attacked his wife, leaving her “unrecognizable.”

Richard Chesher, aged 67, was apprehended by officers from the Mount Washington Police Department and is currently held at the Bullitt County Detention Center. The arrest occurred on a Friday evening after police responded to a distressing scene at his residence in Mount Washington. Upon arrival, officers discovered Chesher, drenched in blood, standing beside the lifeless body of his spouse. An arrest report, as cited by local Fox affiliate WDKY, detailed the grim findings of the officers who came upon the suspect in his garage.

According to a report from local NBC affiliate WAVE, authorities allege Chesher was attempting to move his wife’s body into the cargo area of a pickup truck when they arrived.

During their investigation at the Chesher household, police uncovered a trail of blood that began within the home and led to the garage. A blood-smeared “club-like piece of wood” was located at the crime scene, serving as a potential weapon in the attack.

Tragically, it is reported that the victim suffered such severe trauma to her face and head that her features were rendered unrecognizable.

Chesher’s wife was allegedly “beaten so badly around her face and head she was unrecognizable.”

According to the arrest report, a pickup truck was backed up to the garage door with a makeshift ramp going up to the truck bed. The body of Chesher’s wife was allegedly wrapped up with a garden hose. Chesher reportedly tried to close the garage door on the police when they arrived, but they were able to detain him without incident.

Chesher was charged with murder, domestic violence, tampering with evidence, and abuse of a corpse. He made his first court appearance on Monday, when a judge set his bail at $1 million cash. He is scheduled to appear in court again for a preliminary hearing on March 17.
