In a tragic turn of events, a former city manager from McKinney, Texas, and his wife were discovered shot dead in their residence on Sunday. The couple’s 34-year-old son was subsequently shot by police after they found him in the home holding a handgun.
Concerned family members alerted authorities when they couldn’t reach Leonard and Jackie Ragan, aged 73 and 72, prompting McKinney police to visit their home. Upon arrival, officers entered the house and found the couple deceased in the living room, further escalating the urgency of the situation.
During a thorough search of the premises, officers encountered Bryce Ragan in a bedroom, armed with a firearm. Despite repeated orders from the police to disarm, he allegedly refused to comply. In response, two officers discharged their weapons, hitting him multiple times.
Police reports indicate that immediate medical assistance was provided to Bryce Ragan by the officers until emergency medical services could take over. He was then transported to a nearby hospital, where he is currently reported to be in stable condition.
The investigation into this shocking incident remains active. However, police have assured the public that there is no ongoing threat to community safety.
Police said the investigation into the shooting continues “and there is no ongoing threat to the public.”
Leonard Ragan served as McKinney’s city manager from 2008 to 2010.
“We have learned that former City Manager Frank Ragan and his wife were tragically found deceased in their home,” McKinney City Manager Paul Grimes said in a statement to KTVT. “Mr. Ragan served the McKinney community from March 2008 to June 2010. Our condolences and prayers are with the family. We are unable to comment further while this is an active investigation.”
Police said the two officers who fired on Bryce Ragan have been placed on administrative leave while an investigation is conducted.
They said that Ragan is the suspect in his parents death, but charges have not yet been filed.
