A 21-year-old Texan faces charges after allegedly shooting his grandmother when she reportedly refused to give him his allowance. After the incident, he is said to have moved her body to the patio and covered it with a blanket.
Authorities detained Rontrell Jackson last week, charging him with murder in the death of his 68-year-old grandmother, according to official statements.
As of Monday afternoon, the victim’s name had not been disclosed by authorities.
The Arlington Police Department issued a press release detailing the incident. It stated that at 4:40 p.m. on Friday, officers responded to an emergency call at an apartment complex located in the 1800 block of Carriage House Circle. A family member had discovered the elderly woman unresponsive on the patio, covered with a blanket.
Paramedics arrived shortly after and confirmed that the victim had suffered a gunshot wound. She was declared dead at the scene.
Investigators revealed that Jackson and his grandmother had engaged in a “heated argument,” which reportedly resulted in Jackson losing his allowance, as stated in the police report.
When questioned by investigators, Jackson allegedly admitted to “shooting the victim earlier that morning inside the apartment, then dragging her body out to the patio.”
Detectives obtained an arrest warrant charging Jackson with his grandmother’s murder. He was subsequently taken into custody and booked into the Arlington City Jail. Upon searching the apartment, police recovered a firearm believed to have been used in the shooting, according to the release.
The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office is expected to release the victim’s identity after notifying her next of kin. The office will also determine the victim’s official cause and manner of death.
Jackson has since been transferred to the Tarrant County Jail, where he is currently being held on $750,000 bond, records show. It was not immediately clear when he was scheduled to make his first appearance in court.
Authorities emphasized that the investigation remains ongoing.
