Tragedy has struck an Arizona family as four members, including two young children and their mother, have been discovered dead in what is being investigated as a murder-suicide.

The victims were identified as 31-year-old Justice Jones and her children, 10-year-old Kyle and 8-year-old Tyme. They were found shot to death in their home in Pima, Arizona, on October 16. Also found at the scene was 64-year-old Duane Michael Jones, Justice’s father, with a firearm still in his possession, according to the Pima Police Department. This information was reported by The Gila Herald.

Authorities were alerted to the scene following a welfare check request received around 1 p.m. on that fateful day. Upon arrival, Pima police officers discovered the four deceased family members, prompting them to secure the home for a thorough investigation. Support was provided by police departments from nearby Safford and Thatcher, alongside the Graham County Sheriff’s Office.

Breana Flores, a relative of the deceased, spoke to Arizona’s Family, which includes CBS affiliate KPHO and independent station KTVK, to shed light on the identities of the victims and the circumstances leading up to this heartbreaking event.

“I just hope that they were asleep, and no one had to see anything happen to the others, and that, you know, they didn’t have to experience any type of fear before it happened,” she expressed with sorrow.

Flores mentioned that there were no apparent signs of mental health struggles in Duane Jones prior to the incident. She reflected, “Obviously we’re assuming [he was], because anybody of sane mind, this isn’t something that you do.”

Flores shared with Arizona’s Family that Justice Jones posted a haunting Facebook message the night before her family was found dead. According to Flores, “She had put a post on Facebook, and just said ‘Good night’ with the weird slant emoji on her face… I didn’t see it until after the fact, but there was something going on.”

The bodies of the four family members will undergo autopsies at the Pima County Office of the Medical Examiner in Tucson. Flores started a GoFundMe to raise funds for the family, including the children’s father, Phillip Oates. Oates’ family also started a GoFundMe of their own.
