A Kansas man, in a fit of rage, reportedly called his girlfriend 18 times within two minutes and sent her an insulting message before fatally shooting the 20-year-old at a party she was advised not to attend, police say. This tragic incident occurred just days before her birthday.

“It must have been her crazy boyfriend,” a witness remarked at the scene, as captured on a body camera by Kansas City Police officers, according to the arrest affidavit for Kevin Calamaco-Morales.

Calamaco-Morales, aged 22, faces charges of first-degree murder and criminal discharge of a firearm in connection with the death of Ana Juarez. Witnesses recounted that Juarez was attending a Halloween party in the early hours of November 1 when Calamaco-Morales began persistently calling and messaging her, detailed in the affidavit.

According to a party attendee, Juarez was seen ignoring and declining calls and texts before Calamaco-Morales began shouting her name from outside, the affidavit reveals. A friend of Juarez shared with police that they perceived the relationship as “toxic” and noted that Calamaco-Morales was displeased about Juarez attending Halloween gatherings.

“The friend mentioned that Ana described Kevin as controlling, always wanting to know her whereabouts, and dictating her actions,” the affidavit states. “Earlier in the week, when the friend invited Ana out for Halloween, Ana responded that Kevin wouldn’t allow her.”

Police reports indicate that Calamaco-Morales discovered Juarez’s location on the night of the shooting and began his barrage of calls and texts. Allegedly, he made 18 phone calls within a two-minute window starting at 4:21 a.m., as documented in the affidavit.

“You deada—?” Calamaco-Morales allegedly wrote in a Facebook message to Juarez.

“Deadaaa bro?” Calamaco-Morales repeated, according to the affidavit. “Ight bet,” he allegedly said, adding, “You’re out the f—ing house h— a— b—.”

Police say Calamaco-Morales went up to the porch of the home where Juarez was partying and shot her dead as she exited through the front door. Juarez’s friend who spoke to investigators said she “thinks that Kevin was the shooter because of his attitude towards and with Ana,” noting how she “doesn’t do what he wants” and has seen Kevin with guns before, according to the affidavit.

Multiple people identified Calamaco-Morales as the alleged suspect and police went to his house, where he was arrested. He was booked into jail by the Kansas City Police Department on a $500,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Dec. 16.
