The wife of a New York resident, accused of shooting at a DoorDash driver who mistakenly arrived at their home, is now facing legal trouble due to her alleged involvement in the incident.

John Reilly, aged 48, was charged earlier this year with attempted murder, assault, and unlawful weapon possession. Authorities claim he fired at a 24-year-old DoorDash driver on May 2. According to Orange County District Attorney David Hoovler, the driver, whose name remains undisclosed, ended up at the Reillys’ residence in Chester after his phone died. Mistakenly believing it was the right location, he approached their door with a food delivery, asking if they had ordered.

Reilly reportedly answered the door with a firearm, instructing the driver to leave. The driver complied, but as he attempted to depart in his vehicle, Reilly allegedly shot him, inflicting severe injuries.

News 12 Westchester covered Reilly’s arraignment in June, where prosecutors described the driver’s desperate attempt to flee. Hoovler noted that the driver required emergency surgery to remove part of his small intestine.

When authorities visited the Reilly residence the following day for questioning, Reilly’s wife, Selina Nelson-Reilly, claimed ignorance of the events, according to Hoovler. Allegedly, Nelson-Reilly deleted 17 videos from their smart doorbell camera after the investigators left. Hoovler stated that when investigators returned with further questions, she again feigned ignorance about the previous night’s incident.

Hoovler further revealed that Nelson-Reilly texted a friend, admitting she had permanently erased the footage.

Nelson-Reilly was indicted on charges of hindering prosecution and tampering with evidence. The charges were not bail-eligible, and Nelson-Reilly was released on her own recognizance. She is scheduled to appear in court on Jan. 5, 2026.

Reilly was charged with attempted murder, three counts of assault, and criminal possession of a firearm. He posted $250,000 bail after he was arrested and was ordered to wear an ankle monitor.
