In a tragic incident in Kentucky, a man faces charges of murdering his own son after a volatile confrontation at his mother’s residence.
Phillip Hadley, aged 56, is accused of killing his 33-year-old son, Jordan Hadley, according to documentation from the Adair County Sheriff’s Office. The alleged assailant was due to appear in court for arraignment on Wednesday morning.
Authorities report that around 3 p.m. on Tuesday, the father and son engaged in a heated argument in the backyard of a property along Kentucky Route 55. The Kentucky State Police, supported by coverage from the regional ABC affiliate WBKO, noted that this conflict was part of a prolonged disagreement between the two men.
The specifics of their ongoing dispute remain undisclosed.
During the altercation, Phillip Hadley claimed his son pushed him twice and threatened, “This is going to end today.” As Jordan Hadley allegedly advanced toward him for a third time, Phillip reportedly drew a .40-caliber handgun and shot his son.
The shooting prompted a response from the Kentucky State Police and Adair County deputies, who arrived to find Jordan Hadley gravely injured by a gunshot wound. He was transported to a local hospital, where he was later declared deceased.
Phillip Hadley was arrested and booked into the Adair County Detention Center. He allegedly told investigators that though he did not see a gun on his son, he believed in the moment before the shooting that his son was reaching for one.
The defendant’s mother is said to have witnessed the shooting.
Columbia, Kentucky, is located in the center of the state, about 100 miles south of Louisville.
