Julian Chase Jalbert Sr. is under investigation for purportedly shaking one of his two 8-week-old twins with excessive force, reports Atlanta’s ABC affiliate, WSB. On January 11, emergency dispatchers in Gainesville—located approximately 55 miles northeast of Atlanta—received a distress call from a residence on Shuler Road shortly after 9 a.m. The call concerned an infant who was not breathing. Following the child’s emergency transport to the Northeast Georgia Medical Center, medical professionals identified a brain bleed, according to WSB.

As reported by local news outlet WDUN, specialists at the Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta (CHOA) confirmed the infant suffered from abusive head trauma, indicating the baby’s head had been aggressively shaken back and forth.

The hospital admission prompted authorities to conduct a welfare check on the infant’s twin sibling. Deputies discovered a bruise on the second child’s leg, as per information from the Hall County Sheriff’s Office cited by WDUN.

“The investigation revealed that the injuries sustained by both infants could be linked to Jalbert,” stated the sheriff’s office.

“The investigation determined injuries to both infants could be attributed to Jalbert,” the sheriff’s office said.

Jalbert was arrested at the hospital on Wednesday, days after the 911 call was made, WSB reported.

Jail records show that Jalbert is charged with cruelty to children and battery.

Jalbert is being held at the Hall County Jail on no bond for the child cruelty charge and $5,700 bond on the battery charge. Jail records did not indicate an expected court date.

The Georgia Division of Family and Children’s Services has reportedly taken custody of both infants.
