A man from Florida allegedly initiated a chilling countdown before fatally shooting a wounded individual, demanding the victim’s car keys, according to police reports.

Sylvester Grice-Jordan, 32, faces charges of second-degree murder and using a weapon during the commission of a felony in connection with the death of Yasmany Rodriguez Fernandez. Miami Gardens police reported that they responded to a shooting incident around 7 p.m. Thursday on the 3300 block of NW 177th Terrace.

Upon their arrival, officers observed Grice-Jordan allegedly wielding a rifle. They instructed him to drop the weapon, which he complied with. On the porch, officers discovered Fernandez, who had succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds. Inside the residence were Fernandez’s wife, stepdaughter, and an 8-month-old baby, all of whom were unharmed.

The victim’s stepdaughter informed police that she had been in a relationship with Grice-Jordan. The couple had been residing in the home where the alleged murder took place since April. However, due to ongoing conflicts with Grice-Jordan, the victim’s wife had asked him to leave, which he did on December 15. Grice-Jordan left his dog behind, which led the family to request that he return to collect the pet after it soiled the home, according to police reports.

This request reportedly escalated into an argument, and Grice-Jordan agreed to pick up the dog. Upon arriving at the home, he briefly entered and engaged in a confrontation with Fernandez. Although both men were armed, neither was holding their weapons during the altercation. Grice-Jordan then exited the house, prompting Fernandez to place his firearm on a table and follow him to the porch, where the argument continued, according to the affidavit.

Inside the house, Fernandez’s wife, stepdaughter, and baby heard a gunshot. Fernandez reportedly cried out that he had been shot and urged them to call 911.

Surveillance video captured the suspect asking why Fernandez had a gun and then demanding the victim’s keys, the affidavit said.

“The defendant then told the victim he had five seconds and started a countdown from five to one as he was still holding the rifle at the victim’s head as he laid on the ground shot,” cops wrote.

Grice-Jordan allegedly fired several more shots.

Cops arrested Grice-Jordan and took him to the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center where he remains without bond. He has a hearing set for Monday morning.
