A Nebraska girl is dead and police say two teens are responsible for her murder.

The incident happened a little after 9 p.m. off of 36th and Orchard Avenue in Omaha on December 22. The victim, 14-year-old Isabella Santiago, was shot twice and taken to a local fire station by two bystanders. She was then transported to the Nebraska Medical Center where she was pronounced dead, ABC 7 reports.

According to the Omaha Police Department, two 16-year-old boys have been taken into custody for Santiago’s death.

The suspects were booked Wednesday into the Douglas County Youth Center. They are both facing charges of first-degree murder. One of the teens is facing a use of a weapon to commit a felony charge.

The victim, according to Nokia News, was killed during the commission of a drive-by shooting.

Santiago attended Omaha South High School, where she was in the 9th grade. The school shared a message following her death.

Dear South High Families:

We are deeply saddened to share that one of our students, Isabella Santiago, has died. Isabella was a ninth-grade student here. We have been in contact with Isabella’s family to share our heartfelt sympathy.

We are sending this communication because your student may have known Isabella and may be affected by this news.

We encourage you to be especially sensitive and prepared to offer support to your student during this time. Grief affects everyone differently. Your child may want to talk to you about their feelings. Sometimes students exhibit behavior changes, loss of concentration, physical complaints or regression. These are common reactions associated with the grieving process. Talking about feelings and listening attentively can help students cope.

If you have any concerns, please contact me by email through the winter recess, or call our office at (531) 299-2780 beginning Monday, Jan. 3. Thank you for your concern at this difficult time.
